In what was its most impressive win of the season, the Oakleigh Cannons stormed home to defeat the Eastern Lions 4-1 in-front of a strong crowd at Jack Edwards Reserve.
With leading man Joe Knowles leading the line with two impressive goals and two assists, the Cannons had their best performance of the season. After conceding early, Tyson Holmes got the side back to level pegging after a great pass across the penalty box from Knowles on the right-hand.
The second half only saw the cannons improve as they asserted themselves as the far more dominant side having the large share of possession and goal scoring opportunities.
Knowles was yet again influential in the second goal after a terrific run on the wing he managed to deliver a great cross into the penalty box missing the first Lions defender, only to find a waiting Thurtell in the penalty box for a simple tap in.
The Cannons further capitalised on their dominance by putting the ball in the back of the net a further two times.
After capitalising on some poor defending by the Lions, midfield jet Joe Guest delivered a well worked cross into the box to find the flying boot of Knowles who finally got himself on the score sheet. Knowles capped of the night with a great solo goal after intercepting a wayward pass by the Lions and putting it just past the keeper as it took a deflection on the way in.
The midfield trio of Guest, Paczkowski and Foschini dominated the game and are going to be vital to the success of the side going forward.
The Cannons travel to face Port Melbourne next weekend.
