Oakleigh Cannons and Dandenong City have shared the spoils in a tense contest at the Frank Holohan Soccer Complex.
Hamish Millar's second half goal ruled out Zac Thompson's opener to ensure both sides left with a point.
There was plenty of feeling in this match in what was a must-win game for both sides.
In a cagey opening half, it was the Cannons who had the early ascendancy.
Nick Epifano had the best of the first half chances with his low attempt saved by a diving Alex Connell – who came to City’s rescue on a number of occasions.
Oakleigh continued their dominance after the break and came agonisingly close to scoring in the 55th minute when striker Harry White slammed the crossbar from close range after Connell parried Epifano’s shot towards him.
This miss proved costly as the home side would go on to open the scoring in the 64th minute through Zac Thompson – whose first time shot beat John Honos.
Though the Cannons kept their heads despite going down and equalised through Hamish Millar who lobbed Connell from outside the box in the 74th minute.
It ultimately just wasn’t to be for either side who will both believe they should have walked away with the three points.
